Adding texture with couching: subtle but so satisfying. This is one of my favourite ways to add stitched lines to a piece- laying down thread and securing it with small stitches to create gentle raised textures. There’s so much to explore with this technique: the line can shift dramatically depending on the thickness of the thread you couch down, and whether you choose a matching or contrasting thread to secure it. Delicate or bold, quiet or full of contrast - it’s all in the choices you make. T

So much of my textile work begins with what is found. Rather than starting from a sketch, I let the shapes of fabric offcuts direct the design. These fragments become creative prompts, offering forms I could never have drawn myself. This approach is both imaginative and sustainable.
