The Japanese dwarf flying squirrel is a small, nocturnal rodent native to Japan’s Honshu and Kyushu islands. It has large eyes for night vision, soft grey-brown fur, and a furry membrane between its limbs that lets it glide between trees. These squirrels feed mainly on leaves, buds, and seeds, and spend most of their lives in forests, nesting in tree cavities.
