I thought at first it might be a tick, but since I've never had a tick on my dogs,I looked online, and all those seem to have a head or legs or something, this doesn't.
It is true that flea and tick shampoos only kill live bugs and do not treat the life cycle. And yes it is dangerous to use flea shampoo in conjunction with topical drops or any other treatment. But to make matters worse, the chemicals in ALL of the over the counter flea products are posionious and lethal. Do not use over the counter flea products.
I'm wondering if anyone's dog has tested positive for the anti-bodies for tick-borne disease, the most common being ehrlichia and lyme disease. vets typically check for these two yearly, when they draw blood to test for heartworm. testing positive for anti-bodies is different from showing symptoms - many dogs will show no signs of the disease ...
